Aikido is a unique Japanese martial art that teaches children non-violent self defense.
Students learn to use the force of an attack to complete dynamic throws and pins.
Aikido does not rely on a person’s size or strength for effectiveness, and promotes self control and respect.
Thank you to Henrik Pfluger, whose two children train at our dojo, for making this beautiful video.
Respectful & Social
Aikido has no competitions. Kids train cooperatively with partners and in groups, learning to show respect for peers and teachers.
In Aikido there are no competitive tournaments. Partners practice together in an energetic yet studious atmosphere. Senior students help less experienced students, promoting a culture of cooperation and respect. Rooted in the principles of harmony, this martial art blends discipline with empathy. Students develop both skill and character as they train in a community that supports one another’s progress.
Focused & Calm
From meditation to warm-up exercises to the careful study of technique, children practice being aware, relaxed, and attentive to details.
Our curriculum includes self-defense, meditation, stretching, fitness, tumbling, weapons training, and a variety of Aikido exercises that promote mind-body, hand-eye coordination in a fun and exciting atmosphere. Students not only gain practical skills and physical conditioning but also develop focus, confidence, and resilience. Each class is designed to meet students where they are, helping them grow at their own pace while staying challenged and inspired.
Healthy & Strong
Aikido practice cultivates full-body strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, and endurance.
Our dojo community is like a small village where different ages learn and practice together. Our mixed-age learning culture is one of the things that truly sets our camps and after-school classes apart. Click here to read more about the benefits of mixed age learning.
We also offer classes for our youngest and oldest students separated by age. This allows us to focus more deeply on the specific developmental needs of these groups, helping them build confidence, refine techniques, and connect with peers at a similar point in their journey. By blending mixed-age experiences with some age-specific classes, we give our students the best of both worlds.
Test & Ranks
Our testing system helps kids focus on the core skills of Aikido and exemplifies our approach to teaching. It combines the serious and demanding nature of traditional martial arts with the warm, supportive teacher-student relationships that we believe are vitally important to help kids grow. Every new student begins as a white belt and gradually progresses through our belt system at their own pace. Beginners test once a month, and intermediate students test every two months. Later in the program tests are increasingly challenging. Students who earn the higher belts are very skilled and getting ready to practice with adults.
