Perhaps this is why women have played a prominent role in the tradition of Aikido in general and Florida Aikikai in particular. Women began training with O Sensei early on in the formation of Aikido, and today many of the top instructors in the United States Aikido Federation are women. Among these prominent teachers is our own Penny Bernath Sensei, 7th Dan Shihan, who travels internationally to teach Aikido and regularly instructs our Saturday morning advanced classes.\u00a0\u00a0Additionally, many Florida Aikikai advanced black belt instructors are women with decades of training experience.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]\n<div class=\"sc-divider sc-divider-style-2 sc-divider-center sc-divider-normal\">\n<div class=\"sc-divider-text\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">In July 2021, the USAF announced that Penny Bernath, 7th dan Shihan and co\u2013chief Instructor of Florida Aikikai, had been appointed to the USAF Technical Committee. This position is an incredible honor and a reflection of Penny Sensei\u2019s tremendous dedication both to Aikido and to the USAF. In their announcement about Penny Sensei\u2019s appointment, they noted her involvement in the USAF for almost to 50 years, her recognition within the Aikido community as a valued member both on and off the mat, her multiple terms on the USAF Board of Directors, and the many seminars she has taught at USAF dojos. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">You can read more about the Technical Committee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usaikifed.com\/technical-committee\">here<\/a>. <\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-divider-text\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/aikidojournal.com\/\"><em>Aikido Journal<\/em><\/a> featured an interview with Penny Sensei about her appointment to the Technical Committee.
